Is Zepbound sold in Canada?

Yes. Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection made by Eli Lilly Canada. Health Canada’s Drug Product Database (DPD) lists it as a multidose prefilled pen in six strengths, from 2.5 mg to 15 mg, each with its own Drug Identification Number (DIN, the eight-digit number that identifies a drug product in Canada). All six read “Marketed” in the database, and the original market date on each is 9 July 2025.

Lilly’s Canadian announcement says Health Canada authorized Zepbound on 13 May 2025. Some websites still describe it as “coming soon” or as a US-only product. That is out of date.

What is Zepbound approved for?

Health Canada approved Zepbound for chronic weight management in adults, as an adjunct (an add-on) to a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity. The approved group is adults with obesity (a BMI of 30 or more) and adults who are overweight (a BMI of 27 to under 30) with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiovascular disease.

The product monograph (the official Health Canada prescribing document, revised 11 June 2026) also lists moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity (a BMI of 30 or more). A prescriber decides whether either use fits you.

Zepbound and Mounjaro: same ingredient, different products

Mounjaro also contains tirzepatide. Health Canada lists it under its own DINs, as single-dose pens, single-dose vials and multidose KwikPens, and BC PharmaCare’s drug review describes its approved use as improving blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Zepbound’s approved use is weight management. The Zepbound monograph says taking it with other tirzepatide products, such as Mounjaro, is not recommended. Because the products are separate, a plan can cover one and not the other, and a pharmacy can price them differently.

We cover Mounjaro on its own page: see Mounjaro prices in Canada.

What goes into the price of Zepbound

At a pharmacy counter the total is built from three parts:

  1. Drug cost. The price of the pens at the strength you’re prescribed. Every tirzepatide product in Health Canada’s database (read 3 Oct 2026) is made by Eli Lilly Canada, so we found no generic to compare. See our generics page.
  2. Pharmacy markup. A percentage or flat amount the pharmacy adds to the drug cost. Each pharmacy sets its own, and it is usually not posted.
  3. Dispensing fee. The pharmacy’s charge for filling a prescription (checking it, preparing it and counselling you). It varies by pharmacy and by province.

Zepbound uses a stepped schedule of strengths, so the amount you pay can change as your prescriber moves you up. Ask your pharmacist how the quote changes at each step before you start.

We haven’t checked a Zepbound pharmacy price in any province yet, so there is no price on this page. When we have one, it will appear with its Checked date.

Does a drug plan pay for Zepbound?

Public plans: not that we have confirmed. Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA-AMC), which reviews drugs for the public plans, issued a recommendation on 28 August 2026. It recommends reimbursement with conditions, for adults with a BMI of 27 or more and prediabetes, and only if the cost of Zepbound is reduced. Each province and territory then decides on its own, usually after price talks with the manufacturer. That is narrower than the Health Canada approval, so being approved doesn’t mean being covered.

BC PharmaCare lists Zepbound as under review for that same group. For province-level detail, see the pages for Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.

Private plans: some employer plans cover weight-management drugs after a special authorization (a form your prescriber sends the insurer before the plan agrees to pay). Alberta Blue Cross, for example, publishes an employer-plan form that names Zepbound. Whether yours covers it depends on your plan, so check with your insurer. We list public status by province on our coverage pages.

Savings programs

Eli Lilly Canada runs a patient support program for Zepbound. We couldn’t read its page, because the site blocks automated access, so we haven’t confirmed what it offers, who is eligible or how much it saves. We won’t list an amount until we have read the terms. Not yet checked.

How to ask a pharmacy for a Zepbound quote

  1. Have the exact prescription ready: Zepbound, the strength, and how many weeks of pens it covers.
  2. Ask for the drug cost, the markup and the dispensing fee as separate lines, and what the total is for one fill.
  3. Ask whether the quote changes at the next strength.
  4. Ask whether the pharmacy bills your private plan directly, and whether it needs your plan’s approval first.
  5. Compare totals for the same strength and the same supply length. A longer fill can carry fewer dispensing fees.

Questions people ask

Is Zepbound available in Canada?

Yes. Health Canada's Drug Product Database lists six Zepbound pen strengths from Eli Lilly Canada, all with the status "Marketed". The first market date shown is 9 July 2025.

What is Zepbound approved for in Canada?

Chronic weight management in adults, as an add-on to diet and exercise, for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition. The monograph revised 11 June 2026 also lists moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.

Is Zepbound the same as Mounjaro?

They share the ingredient tirzepatide and the maker, Eli Lilly. They are separate products with separate Drug Identification Numbers (DINs), and Mounjaro's approved use is type 2 diabetes.

Do provincial drug plans cover Zepbound?

We haven't confirmed a provincial public listing for weight management. Canada's Drug Agency recommended reimbursement with conditions on 28 August 2026, and each province now decides for itself.

Why does the same Zepbound dose cost different amounts at different pharmacies?

The drug price is shared, but pharmacies set their own markup and, in most provinces, their own dispensing fee. Ask for a written quote that shows both.
