Zepbound is sold in British Columbia, and BC PharmaCare lists it as "under review" for weight management in adults with a BMI of 27 or more and prediabetes. It is not a PharmaCare benefit yet, so you'd pay cash or use a private plan. We haven't checked a BC pharmacy price.

Does BC PharmaCare cover Zepbound?
Not yet. PharmaCare is BC’s public drug plan, and it reviews each drug for a specific condition. If it decides to cover Zepbound, the coverage applies only to the use it names. PharmaCare’s drug information sheet for Zepbound (submission 4166) describes the use under review as chronic weight management, including weight maintenance, in adults with an initial BMI of 27 or more and prediabetes. Public input ran from 27 May to 23 June 2026, and the sheet lists Zepbound’s PharmaCare status as “Under Review”.
That group is narrower than Health Canada’s approval, which also includes adults with a BMI of 30 or more. It matches the group in Canada’s Drug Agency recommendation of 28 August 2026. A recommendation is not a coverage decision, and BC has not announced one that we have found.
Not coveredUnder review by PharmaCare (submission 4166). No listing or Special Authority found as of 3 Oct 2026.
Special authority and the income-based plan
Two BC terms come up often.
Special Authority is PharmaCare’s way of covering a listed drug only for people who meet set criteria. Your prescriber applies before the pharmacy bills PharmaCare. It exists for a drug once PharmaCare has decided to cover it for that use. We haven’t found a Special Authority for Zepbound.
Fair PharmaCare is the PharmaCare plan whose beneficiaries have a “family maximum” in the policy manual’s dispensing-fee page. That page is the only Fair PharmaCare source we read, so we haven’t confirmed how the maximum is set, how it relates to income, or whether anything you pay for Zepbound would count toward it. Ask PharmaCare.
The same tirzepatide ingredient is also under PharmaCare review as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes (submission 4153). That’s a different product and a different use, and it’s a separate review.
How BC pharmacy fees work
BC is the province of the three we cover where PharmaCare publishes a hard ceiling on the dispensing fee it reimburses. The policy manual states a maximum fee, and says pharmacies can charge more than that maximum to Fair PharmaCare beneficiaries who haven’t reached their family maximum. The manual page was last updated on 6 July 2026.
What that means for Zepbound: because it isn’t a PharmaCare benefit that we’ve confirmed, the ceiling is a guide, not a promise about your quote. A pharmacy sets its own dispensing fee and markup for cash sales and private plans. Ask for them as separate lines. The cap amount is in our data proposals and will appear after verification.
Who can prescribe Zepbound in BC
Zepbound needs a prescription. The College of Pharmacists of BC says pharmacists can diagnose and prescribe for the conditions listed in Schedule A of the Pharmacists Regulation, and prescribe for contraception. Schedule A includes conditions such as acne, allergic rhinitis and dermatitis, each tied to a drug category. We didn’t see weight management on the list. The College’s page also points to a standard on adapting a prescription (PPP-58), which we haven’t read. A physician or nurse practitioner is the starting point we can document.

A provider’s fee is separate from the cost of the pen.
Private plans in British Columbia
Employer and union plans set their own rules. A plan that pays for a weight-management drug will often require special authorization, meaning a form your prescriber sends first. Ask your insurer about Zepbound by name. We haven’t confirmed which BC insurers list it. See our coverage pages for what we have checked.
How to get a BC quote
Get the strength and the number of weeks your prescription covers.
Ask two or three pharmacies for drug cost, markup and dispensing fee as separate lines.
Ask whether the Fair PharmaCare family maximum affects the fee for this drug.
Ask whether a private plan can be billed directly.
Note the date and total so you can compare later.
Questions people ask
Does BC PharmaCare cover Zepbound?
Not yet. PharmaCare's drug information sheet lists Zepbound as under review, with public input open from 27 May to 23 June 2026. We haven't seen a decision.
Is there a Special Authority for Zepbound in BC?
We haven't found one. Special Authority is how PharmaCare covers a listed drug for people who meet set criteria, and it applies once PharmaCare lists the drug for that use.
Does Fair PharmaCare help with Zepbound?
We haven't confirmed. PharmaCare's policy manual refers to a Fair PharmaCare "family maximum", but we haven't read how it is set or what counts toward it. Ask PharmaCare.
What dispensing fee will a BC pharmacy charge?
PharmaCare caps the fee it reimburses, but its policy manual says pharmacies can charge more to Fair PharmaCare beneficiaries who haven't reached their family maximum. Ask each pharmacy.
Can a BC pharmacist prescribe Zepbound?
BC pharmacists can prescribe for the minor ailments and contraception listed in Schedule A of the Pharmacists Regulation. Weight management isn't on the Schedule A list we read, so we haven't found a pharmacist route to a Zepbound prescription.
