Zepbound is sold in Ontario. We couldn't confirm a listing on the Ontario Drug Benefit as of 3 Oct 2026, and we haven't checked a pharmacy price yet. Ontario's published fee rules apply to drugs the ODB pays for, so for anything else the pharmacy's own fee applies.

Is Zepbound covered in Ontario?
We couldn’t confirm a listing as of 3 Oct 2026. The Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) Formulary is the list of drugs the province pays for. The Edition 43 file we read sets out program rules rather than a searchable drug list, so it can’t tell us either way, and we haven’t searched the online e-Formulary.
Zepbound is approved by Health Canada for chronic weight management in adults. That approval is separate from a public plan’s decision to pay for it. For the national picture, including Canada’s Drug Agency recommendation of 28 August 2026, see our Zepbound price hub.
Three public routes in Ontario
Ontario has three public routes, and each works differently.
Coverage for people 24 and under. The formulary document says people aged 24 and under who have OHIP and no private plan are covered under the ODB. The document we read doesn’t use the name OHIP+. Coverage is for drugs the program funds, so it depends on the same listing question.
Trillium Drug Program. This helps households whose prescription costs are large compared with their income. You pay a deductible set by household income and family size, spread over four quarterly instalments, and then the program pays for eligible drugs. Whether it would apply to Zepbound depends on that same listing question, which we couldn’t confirm.
Exceptional Access Program (EAP). This is the province’s route for drugs not on the formulary. Only a physician or nurse practitioner (a nurse with advanced training who can prescribe) can send the request. The EAP page we read doesn’t describe criteria for weight management, so we haven’t confirmed what a Zepbound request needs or whether one would be approved.
The practical step: ask your prescriber or pharmacist whether Zepbound is funded for you.
How Ontario pharmacy fees work
Ontario’s published fee rules apply to prescriptions the ODB pays for. For those, the program pays the listed drug price, a markup, and the lesser of the pharmacy’s usual dispensing fee or the ODB fee, minus your co-payment. Some recipients pay a small co-payment toward the fee, and seniors above set income levels pay a yearly deductible first. For long-term medications the ODB limits how many dispensing fees it will pay per year, so pharmacies often prefer a longer supply per fill.
Those rules do not set what you pay in cash or what a private plan pays for a drug the ODB doesn’t cover. In that case the pharmacy sets its own markup and dispensing fee, which is why two Ontario pharmacies can quote different totals for the same Zepbound pen. We haven’t published a pharmacy price for Zepbound in Ontario yet. When we do, it will show the fee and the date we checked.
Co-payment, deductible and fee-limit amounts are in our data proposals and will appear after verification.
Who can prescribe Zepbound in Ontario
Zepbound needs a prescription. We haven’t confirmed what Ontario pharmacists may prescribe for weight management. The Ontario College of Pharmacists pages blocked our automated read, so we haven’t read its scope-of-practice wording. A physician or nurse practitioner (the two prescribers named on the Exceptional Access Program page) is the starting point we can document.
If you prefer to see a prescriber online, our provider guide explains the care models.
We earn a commission when you sign up with some providers through our links. It never changes our prices or how we rank providers. How we rank
A provider’s visit fee is separate from the medication cost.
What a private plan may do in Ontario
Many Ontario residents have a private drug plan through work. Insurers set their own rules, and a plan that pays for a weight-management drug will often ask for special authorization (a form your prescriber sends the insurer first). Ask your insurer by name for Zepbound, not for “GLP-1s” in general, because plans often treat products separately. We haven’t confirmed which Ontario insurers list it. See our Ontario coverage page for what we have checked.
How to get an Ontario quote
Ask your prescriber for the strength and the number of weeks the prescription covers.
Call two or three pharmacies, and ask for drug cost, markup and dispensing fee as separate lines.
Ask whether a longer fill changes the fee.
If you have a private plan, ask the pharmacy whether it can bill the insurer directly.
Write down the date and the total so you can compare like with like.
Questions people ask
Is Zepbound covered by OHIP+ in Ontario?
We couldn't confirm a listing as of 3 Oct 2026. The Ontario formulary document says people aged 24 and under with OHIP and no private plan are covered as Ontario Drug Benefit recipients. Check with your pharmacist or the ministry's coverage checker.
Can my doctor ask for Zepbound through the Exceptional Access Program?
Only a physician or nurse practitioner can submit a request. The program's page doesn't describe criteria for weight management, so we haven't confirmed how a Zepbound request would be assessed.
Does the Trillium Drug Program cover Zepbound?
Trillium helps households whose drug costs are high compared with their income. We couldn't confirm a Zepbound listing as of 3 Oct 2026, so we can't say whether Trillium would apply.
Can an Ontario pharmacist prescribe Zepbound?
We haven't confirmed. The Ontario College of Pharmacists page blocked our automated read, so we can't state what Ontario pharmacists may prescribe for weight management. Ask your pharmacist.
Why is my Ontario pharmacy quote different from a friend's?
Outside the ODB, the dispensing fee and markup are the pharmacy's own. Ask each pharmacy for the drug cost, markup and fee as separate lines.
