We could not confirm that the Ontario Drug Benefit lists Mounjaro as of 3 October 2026. Without a listing, you pay the pharmacy's price, which includes a dispensing fee each Ontario pharmacy sets for itself, unless a private plan pays.

Is Mounjaro covered by the Ontario Drug Benefit?
The Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) is the province’s public drug program for people who qualify. The ODB Formulary is its list of covered drugs, and some entries are marked Limited Use, meaning the plan pays only when the prescriber’s reason matches written criteria.
We looked for Mounjaro on the ODB Formulary and on Ontario’s e-Formulary search and could not confirm a listing as of 3 October 2026. Some other sites state that Ontario lists it with Limited Use criteria. We don’t repeat that without reading it on Ontario’s own page. The national negotiation that usually comes before provinces list a drug shows Mounjaro as under consideration for negotiation, with a letter of acknowledgement sent on 28 August 2026.
The practical step is simple: ask your pharmacist to run Mounjaro against your ODB number. That tells you the answer for your situation on the day you ask.
OHIP+ and other Ontario programs
OHIP+ covers people aged 24 and younger who don’t have a private drug plan. Ontario’s page says it works through the ODB, so it covers what the ODB lists and nothing more.
Ontario’s page names the Trillium Drug Program as one way to be eligible for ODB benefits, and says the Exceptional Access Program is open to those people too. We haven’t read the Trillium eligibility rules for this page, so check them on Ontario’s site before you apply.
The exceptional access route
The Exceptional Access Program (EAP) is how Ontario considers a drug that is not on the ODB Formulary, or where no listed drug fits. Ontario’s page says patients must be eligible for ODB benefits, which includes people on the Trillium Drug Program.
Only an authorized prescriber can apply, and that means an Ontario physician or nurse practitioner (a nurse with advanced training who can diagnose and prescribe). Requests go in through the SADIE online portal, by phone, or by fax or mail, with clinical details and lab results. Ontario says chronic-condition requests can take several weeks. We haven’t confirmed whether an EAP request for Mounjaro would be approved, because the program decides case by case.
If you have a private plan instead, the equivalent step is your insurer’s prior authorization form, which your prescriber completes.
Dispensing fees in Ontario
A dispensing fee is what a pharmacy charges to fill a prescription, separate from the drug cost. In Ontario it works in two ways. When the ODB pays, the program sets a fixed fee for that fill. For everyone else, including people paying out of pocket or through private insurance, each pharmacy charges its own usual and customary fee, and has to post it where patients can see it.
The Ontario College of Pharmacists says it does not set fees or limits on them. So in Ontario the same Mounjaro pen can have a different total at each pharmacy even before markup. Ask for the fee in writing or on the phone, as we describe on the Mounjaro price page.

Who can prescribe it in Ontario
Mounjaro is a prescription drug approved by Health Canada for type 2 diabetes. In Ontario, pharmacists can prescribe for a defined list of minor ailments, and only the specific drugs the regulation names. A new diabetes injection isn’t something we found on that list. Your family doctor, a walk-in clinic physician or a nurse practitioner is the usual starting point.
Online providers that serve Ontario work through physicians or nurse practitioners as well. Their fees pay for the visit, not the medication. See how providers compare.
Talk to your prescriber or pharmacist before changing anything about your treatment.
Questions people ask
Is Mounjaro covered in Ontario?
We could not confirm an Ontario Drug Benefit listing in the sources we read on 3 October 2026. Ontario publishes a searchable e-Formulary, and your pharmacist can check your own coverage against it in minutes.
Does OHIP+ cover Mounjaro?
OHIP+ gives people aged 24 and under, without a private plan, access to Ontario Drug Benefit coverage. It pays only for drugs the Ontario Drug Benefit covers, so it follows the same listing question as above.
What is the Exceptional Access Program?
It is Ontario's case-by-case route for drugs not on the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary. Only people eligible for the Ontario Drug Benefit can use it, and a physician or nurse practitioner has to submit the request.
Who sets the dispensing fee in Ontario?
For people on the Ontario Drug Benefit, the program sets it. For everyone else, each pharmacy sets a usual and customary fee, and the Ontario College of Pharmacists does not set or cap it.
Can an Ontario pharmacist prescribe Mounjaro?
Ontario pharmacists can prescribe for a defined list of minor ailments, and we found no sign that starting a diabetes injection is on it. Mounjaro would normally come from a physician or nurse practitioner.
